About
I come from a proud Yorkshire family, although my education and early medical career took me to the south of England. I attended school in Amersham, Buckinghamshire, before undertaking my medical training at the University of Oxford, where I developed a strong foundation in surgical practice and clinical research.
I later returned to the north of England to pursue higher surgical training, working as a registrar based in Leeds. During this period, I completed two years of specialist vascular surgical research, contributing to advancements in the field. My academic and clinical work led to scientific presentations and invited lectures delivered across the UK, Europe, and North and South America, reflecting my commitment to high standards and international best practice.
In 1995, I moved to York to take up a post as a Consultant General and Vascular Surgeon. Over time, my practice evolved to focus exclusively on vascular surgery, allowing me to develop a high level of specialist expertise.
Today, I work as a full-time varicose vein specialist, providing expert assessment and treatment for venous disease. I run dedicated specialist clinics and operating lists across:
- York
- Harrogate
- Teesside
This allows patients across Yorkshire and the North East to access consultant-led, specialist vascular care close to home.
Special interests
I am very happy to provide a full range of treatments for varicose veins and thread veins. I introduced modern, minimally-invasive varicose vein treatment to York in 2004 and radio frequency ablation (VNUS) is now the mainstay procedure. I regularly undertake injection treatment (sclerotherapy) for both varicose veins and thread veins.
My other interest is the assessment of actual or possible peripheral vascular disease. I am very pleased to see patients whose symptoms or whose Doppler test has suggested reduced circulation to the legs.

Personal interests
My main hobby is classic car and motorbike restoration. I also enjoy building restoration. I have ongoing projects in all these.
I am very keen on working outside on gardening and landscaping, again with ongoing projects, depending on the season.
When indoors, I enjoy cooking but also eating out. My reading is largely the works of Shakespeare, classic novels and non-fiction historical texts. I go to the theatre as much as possible, mainly but not exclusively to see the works of Shakespeare.
My sporting interests are tennis, skiing and motorsport. I do not take part in the latter!
