About
Mr Rhys Thomas is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, specialising in foot and ankle surgery. He is the assigned foot and ankle surgeon for the Welsh FIFA Medical Centre of Excellence.
Mr Thomas graduated from University College Hospital, London in 1990. In 2001, he was awarded the BOA/Wishbone Trust Travelling Fellowship and spent a year with Dr Tim Daniels in Toronto, where he specialised in adult foot and ankle surgery. Subsequent to this, he was awarded Travelling Fellowships by both the European and American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Societies.
He was appointed as a Consultant in Cardiff & Vale UHB in 2003. He set up and supervises the Cardiff Foot and Ankle Fellowship, and served on the British Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society Education Committee from 2015-2022.
Mr Thomas is Honorary Surgeon to both the Welsh Rugby Union and Football Association of Wales, and was orthopaedic surgeon at the World Cup in Qatar. He works with professional and recreational athletes across a wide variety of sports, including Premier League and EFL football, English Premiership and URC Rugby, and ECB Cricket, and is a Fellow of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine.
