Dr Briscoe qualified in medicine from University of Birmingham Medical School in 1988 and was elected as a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 1994. He gained a Master of Medical Science (Birmingham) degree in 1996. He was appointed as an NHS Consultant Psychiatrist in 1997 and has worked for South Staffs and Shropshire NHS Foundation Trust since 2010. He was a Senior Lecturer in the Interdisciplinary Centre for Mental Health, University of Birmingham from 2002-2005. He has written a number of peer reviewed academic papers and book chapters.
Dr Briscoe has worked as a private Consultant Psychiatrist since 1997. He was Medical Director at Woodbourne Priory Hospital from 2003 to 2006. Dr Briscoe has specific expertise in occupational mental health and substantial experience in all areas of general psychiatry. Dr Briscoe is approved by the Minister of Justice under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act (1983) as having experience in the assessment and treatment of mental disorder.
Dr Briscoe has published peer reviewed articles and written book chapters on stress, personality disorder and mental health policy. He has undertaken research into mental health problems of homeless families.
