About

Dr Gary Stiefel has been a Consultant in Paediatric Allergy at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust since 2012. He is the current Clinical Lead for the Children's Allergy Service.

Dr Stiefel was the lead author of the BSACI national guidelines on nut allergy and played a key role in changing legislation to allow schools to hold generic adrenaline autoinjectors, working alongside Allergy UK and Anaphylaxis UK. In 2020, he led a national British Paediatric Surveillance Unit (BPSU) study through the RCPCH into FPIES (Food Protein-Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome).

He is actively involved in peanut desensitisation research and is currently recruiting patients for The Natasha Clinical Trial, offering oral immunotherapy for milk and peanut allergy.

Dr Stiefel previously served on the RCPCH Specialist Advisory Committee for Allergy, Immunology and Infectious Diseases (2014–2019). He has been a Trustee of Allergy UK since 2019 and was appointed Chair of the Health Advisory Board inOctober 2024.

He is actively engaged in education, teaching at both local and regional levels, and is a regular lecturer on the Allergy MSc programme at the University of Southampton.

Dr Stiefel lectures on the Allergy MSc programme at the University of Southampton and is also the lead for the Paediatric Allergy Training Course (Part 3) offered by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH). He is a Trustee of Allergy UK and currently serves as Chair of its Health Advisory Board.
