Jane’s knee pain relief with Arthrosamid® injections at Nuffield Health North Staffordshire Hospital
- Overview
Jane’s story
Jane Craft, aged 57 from Stafford, had been living with persistent knee osteoarthritis pain for several years, impacting her comfort and everyday life. Seeking an effective solution, she discovered Arthrosamid® at Nuffield Health North Staffordshire Hospital.
The minimally invasive, single injection treatment was administered by Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon Mr Siddharth P. Govilkar and has made a remarkable difference. Jane is delighted with the outcome and is now enjoying improved mobility and a renewed confidence in her movement.
“As the pain gradually worsened, it began to take a real toll on both my physical and mental health. Not being able to stay active meant I started to gain weight, which left me feeling low, drained, and lacking the motivation or energy to do much at all,” Jane recalls.
Over the years, Jane’s condition continued to worsen, making even the simplest everyday tasks feel impossible. She struggled to stand for long periods and could only walk short distances. Nights were particularly difficult, as the pain often became unbearable and repeatedly disrupted her sleep.
Finding the right treatment option
Jane tried everything from knee supports to heat pads, but nothing made a real difference. As the pain continued to worsen, she decided enough was enough and knew she needed to take action. At 57, the thought of a knee replacement and the lengthy recovery that came with it, felt overwhelming, prompting Jane to look for a treatment that could offer lasting relief without surgery.
“After researching Arthrosamid® injections, I wanted to understand more about the treatment and whether it would be right for me. From the very first consultation, Mr Govilkar was fantastic, he took the time to explain everything clearly and answered all of my questions. After talking through the different options, I felt reassured and confident that Arthrosamid® was the best choice for my needs.”
Arthrosamid® is an injectable, non-biodegradable hydrogel that is made up of mostly water, with a soft, flexible structure. When it is injected into the knee, it blends into the soft tissue that lines the inside of the joint (the synovial membrane). This creates a flexible, cushioning, "shock-absorbing" layer inside the knee, which reduces friction between the joints, pain and inflammation. The injection is a straightforward process and typically takes less than 30 minutes as an outpatient procedure.
Back to doing the things I love
“I was quite nervous before going in for the treatment, but I was pleasantly surprised by how quick and straightforward it was. The whole procedure took around 20 minutes and involved only a small amount of discomfort.”
“The following morning, I was genuinely amazed by how stable my knee felt. I could go up and down the stairs much more easily, something I had really struggled with before. I used to dread using the stairs and had even started to think about having a stairlift fitted.”
“Apart from a few minor niggles here and there, the pain was completely gone. I couldn’t believe how good I felt, it has made a dramatic difference to my life. I’m now back to swimming three times a week, which I never thought I’d be able to do again.”
“I truly can’t recommend this treatment enough.”
