Christine’s knee pain relief with Arthrosamid® injections at Nuffield Health North Staffordshire Hospital
- Overview
Christine’s story
Christine Shaw from Newcastle-under-Lyme had struggled with persistent knee osteoarthritis pain for several years, until she discovered Arthrosamid® at Nuffield Health North Staffordshire Hospital. Administered by Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon Mr Siddharth P. Govilkar, the minimally invasive single-injection treatment has made a remarkable difference, and Christine is thrilled with the outcome.
“Over the years my condition got worse, the pain was intense, making even the simplest tasks feel impossible. I struggled walking, and I’d started using a stick. Nights were especially difficult as sleep was often interrupted because the pain became unbearable,” Christine recalls.
“As the pain got progressively worse, it began to take a serious toll on my mental health. It left me feeling really low, with no motivation or energy to do anything at all.”
Exploring treatment options
“I tried every kind of painkiller you can imagine, nothing made any difference. A knee replacement wasn’t a suitable option for me due to my mental health, but as the pain continued to worsen, I knew I needed a treatment that could offer longer-term relief without requiring surgery. That’s when my daughter-in-law suggested I consider going private. We searched online, found Mr Govilkar, and booked an appointment straightaway.”
“Mr Govilkar was brilliant from the very first consultation right through to the end of my treatment. He constantly put my mind at ease. I warmed to him immediately because he made me feel comfortable, listened carefully to everything I had to say, and truly understood my concerns.”
“After discussing the available options, together we decided that Arthrosamid® would be the most appropriate choice.”
Arthrosamid® is an injectable, non-biodegradable hydrogel that is made up of mostly water, with a soft, flexible structure. When it is injected into the knee, it blends into the soft tissue that lines the inside of the joint (the synovial membrane). This creates a flexible, cushioning, “shock-absorbing” layer inside the knee, which reduces friction between the joints, pain and inflammation. The injection is a straightforward process and typically takes less than 30 minutes as an outpatient procedure.
Feeling like myself again
“After the treatment, the pain slowly started to ease. It took about two months before I really felt the full difference, but now I’m completely pain-free — and my walking stick is no longer needed!”
“I am amazed by the results, I never imagined I could feel this good again.”
“I’ve already recommended your hospital and this treatment to a friend with knee problems — that’s how much I believe in the care I received.”
