-
Electroencephalogram (EEG)An EEG records the electrical activity of your brain using small sensors placed on your scalp. It is painless and non-invasive.
Why you might need an EEG:- Suspected epilepsy or seizures
- Blackouts or collapses
- Episodes of confusion or memory loss
- Unexplained changes in behaviour or awareness
- Monitoring an existing neurological condition
What symptoms do we investigate:- Loss of awareness or “blank” episodes
- Jerking or shaking movements
- Memory gaps
- Strange sensations (visual, smell or taste changes)
- Events occurring during sleep
-
Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS)This test checks how well your nerves send signals by applying small electrical impulses to the skin.
Why you might need NCS:- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Nerve damage or injury
- Peripheral neuropathy (including diabetic neuropathy)
- Trapped nerves
Common symptoms:- Numbness or tingling
- Burning or shooting pain
- Weak grip or hand clumsiness
- Pain radiating down arms or legs
-
Electromyography (EMG)EMG assesses the electrical activity of your muscles using a very fine needle.
Why you might need EMG:- Muscle weakness
- Suspected nerve root problems
- Muscle disorders (myopathy)
- Motor neurone disease investigation.
Common symptoms:- Muscle weakness or wasting
- Twitching or cramping
- Difficulty walking or gripping
- Progressive loss of strength
-
Evoked potentials (EPs)
Evoked potentials measure how quickly signals travel through different pathways in your nervous system.
Visual evoked potentials (VEP)
Tests the pathway between your eyes and brain.
Used for:- Visual disturbances
- Optic neuritis
- Multiple sclerosis investigation
Somatosensory evoked potentials (SSEP)
Tests the sensory pathways from your limbs to your brain.
Used for:- Numbness or tingling
- Spinal cord conditions
- Sensory pathway issues
Brainstem auditory evoked potentials (BAEP)
Assesses hearing pathways through the brainstem.
Used for:- Hearing loss or tinnitus
- Balance problems
- Brainstem-related conditions
-
Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT)
The MSLT measures how quickly you fall asleep during the day. It is usually performed after an overnight sleep study.
Why you might need it:- Excessive daytime sleepiness
- Suspected narcolepsy
- Sleep attacks or abnormal sleep patterns
What happens during your test?
- Most tests take 30 to 60 minutes
- Non-invasive or minimally invasive
- Guided by friendly specialists throughout
- Clear explanation before and after your test
You’ll receive clear and prompt results with the next steps to support your diagnosis.
