What is physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a profession whose aim is to encourage and support the return to normal following illness, surgery, disease or trauma. It can be effective in the treatment of a range of muscle, joint and nerve conditions.

Physiotherapists use a wide range of techniques such as manual therapy and exercise prescription to maintain health for people of all ages, helping patients to manage pain and prevent disease.

We can offer expertise in upper limb and hand rehabilitation, pain management programmes and post-surgical recovery. Many of our therapists are also trained in Pilates, Acupuncture and Joint Manipulation, carrying out thorough biomechanical assessments to enhance and optimize function.

We have strong links with many orthopaedic consultants in Yorkshire and have an excellent track record in the rehabilitation of upper and lower limb sports injuries. In addition, we can offer pre and post natal treatment and advice as well as vertigo and balance rehabilitation with our vestibular specialist.

Vic Mayes Senior Physiotherapist About

Vic Mayes

Senior Physiotherapist

How can I help you improve your health?

Vic graduated from King’s College London with a BSc Hons in Physiotherapy in 1997. She spent the following six years working in various MSk posts in Dublin, where she also gained a first class HDip (acup) at Univeristy College Dublin.

On her return she started work for Nuffield Health where she has had a variety of roles within their hospital, gym and corporate settings.

In addition to many years of MSk experience, Covid led to a three year opportunity to work on the orthopaedic wards which enabled her to develop an in depth knowledge of the patient journey for joint replacements, spinal and shoulder surgery, ligament reconstructions and sporting injury procedures.

Vic’s treatment approach is hands on, rehab focused and patient specific. With the importance of taking the larger picture of the individual’s life into consideration. She fully believes that in order to achieve your goals understanding the condition and finding the right program for you is paramount.

She is a keen runner and cyclist (hills and longer distances being her passion) and has a special interest in treating injuries relating to these. Including gait analysis, Bike fitting and Orthotic advice.
