About

I am a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon specialising in foot and ankle conditions. I have over 35 years of clinical experience.

I provide private care at Nuffield Health Derby Hospital and Derby Private Health. I also work in the NHS at Royal Derby Hospital.

I treat adults with a wide range of foot and ankle problems. My aim is to reduce your pain, improve your movement and help you stay active.

Areas of expertise

I diagnose and treat many conditions affecting the foot and ankle, including:

  • Foot pain and deformities
  • Bunions, claw toes and forefoot problems
  • Ankle pain, arthritis and instability
  • Ligament injuries
  • Sports injuries of the foot and ankle
  • Problems with walking (gait abnormalities)
  • Neurological conditions affecting movement

I treat both simple and complex conditions and offer personalised care tailored to your needs.

Specialist procedures

I offer a wide range of treatments, including:

  • Foot and ankle reconstruction surgery
  • Correction of deformities
  • Ankle arthroscopy (keyhole surgery)
  • Bone and soft tissue procedures
  • Joint injections, including first metatarsophalangeal joint injections (big toe joint)
  • Joint replacement and fusion surgery

I also use gait analysis. This looks at how you walk and helps guide treatment, including orthotics (special shoe inserts).

Training and qualifications

I qualified in medicine from the University of London in 1990. I later gained a Master’s degree, a PhD and specialist orthopaedic qualifications (FRCS in Trauma and Orthopaedics).

I completed advanced training through international fellowships, including:

  • The Ilizarov method in Russia (a technique for bone lengthening and reconstruction)
  • Foot and ankle surgery in France
  • Clubfoot treatment in the USA
  • Paediatric limb reconstruction

Academic and leadership roles

I am a Professor of Biomechanics and Gait at the University of Derby. I am also a Professor of Orthopaedics at the National University of Malaysia.

At Royal Derby Hospital, I lead the Gait Laboratory. This uses advanced movement analysis to better understand and treat walking problems.

I also serve as Deputy Chair of the UK Clubfoot Network.

Wider work

I co‑founded the Neverest Orthopaedics Foundation in 2013. Through this charity, I take part in volunteer surgical missions to Nepal. I help provide treatment for children with clubfoot and support local healthcare teams.
