About

Professor Seal trained at St Bartholomew’s Hospital London, qualifying in 1992. He gained several prizes during his undergraduate career and was awarded the Betuel Prize for Medicine by the University of London when he graduated.

His post graduate training and research was at the Hammersmith Hospital and Imperial College London. He was awarded a Wellcome Trust Clinical Training Fellowship and his research interest was in the hypothalamic control of reproduction. He was awarded a PhD in 2003 and has published over 20 papers in peer-reviewed journals.

Professor Seal joined St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2003. He is a Consultant and Professor in Endocrinology and Diabetes. His clinical interests are in pituitary disease, adrenal disease and he specialises in medical andrology. He leads the andrology services in the department of endocrinology.

Since 2003 he has also been the Consultant Endocrinologist in the Charing Cross Adult Gender Identity Clinic, which moved to the Tavistock and Portman Hospital in 2020. This is the oldest and largest gender identity service in the UK and has been operational since 1966. He developed the endocrine service in this clinic and he has led the development and expansion of the endocrine provision. He is also the clinical lead for endocrine services and he is recognised as a gender specialist by the gender recognition panel.

In the private sector he works as part of the Gender Care group of gender specialists providing high quality endocrine care to gender nonconforming people. He is recognised as a national expert in this field.

Adult gender identity healthcare endocrinology

  • Management of hormone replacement for adult gender nonconforming people post gender affirming surgery
  • Management of hormone therapy for gender nonconforming people following assessment by a gender specialist (via gender care)
  • Hormone therapy for non-binary people.

Testosterone disorders

  • Male hypogonadism
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Testosterone replacement for women.

Pituitary disease

  • Investigation and management of people with pituitary disease.
