About
Professor Tysome is a Consultant ENT surgeon based at Cambridge University Hospitals. He treats both children (from birth) and adults with general ENT problems, specialising in hearing and balance issues, Eustachian tube dysfunction, sinusitis, paediatric ENT problems, hearing implantation and skull base surgery. He pioneered the introduction of balloon dilatation of the Eustachian tube in the UK and regularly sees patients with complex ENT problems referred from other ENT surgeons.
Professor Tysome has worked in London, Cambridge and California and has won many academic prizes. He is an Affiliated Professor at the University of Cambridge. He is NHS England National Clinical Lead for Specialised Ear Surgery. He has published 150 research papers and is Editor-in-Chief of Clinical Otolaryngology, a leading academic ENT journal. He holds national leadership positions in education and research at the Royal Society of Medicine, British Skull Base Society and ENT UK.

Personal interests
Professor Tysome spends most of his spare time with his wife and three children. He also enjoys running, cycling and swimming and competes in long distance triathlons and ultramarathons.

Research
Professor Tysome, has an active research programme at the University of Cambridge and is regularly invited to present his work internationally in the fields of eustachian tube dysfunction, hearing loss, hearing implants and skull base surgery. He has been awarded over £3 million in research grants for clinical trials, develops medical devices and supervises MPhil and PhD students.
