About

Ms Katie Schwab qualified from Imperial College, London, with Honours in 2003.  Undertaking her Higher Surgical Training in the London Deanery, she specialised in General and Colorectal Surgery. As part of her MD research degree at the University of Surrey and the internationally renowned Minimal Access Therapy Training Unit (MATTU), she conducted the UK's first clinical trial investigating 3D Laparoscopic Surgery. Katie's research has been presented internationally and was awarded the acclaimed Gerhard Buess Award at the EAES International Congress.

Ms Schwab has taught on numerous surgical courses in various disciplines. She is an Instructor for the Royal College of Surgeons, specialising in Basic and Laparoscopic Surgical Skills and Care of the Critically Ill Surgical Patient. Katie completed a Specialist Fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery at Frimley Park Hospital, Surrey, before commencing her Consultant position at UHD in 2018.

Ms Schwab has an interest in pelvic floor pathologies and works closely with other specialist colleagues to offer patients the best holistic care for their symptoms. She is currently the Lead for Colorectal Cancer at UHD and is a member of the Pelvic Floor MDT.

Katie offers surgical care for all anorectal and colonic/gastrointestinal conditions as well as general surgical conditions, like hernias and 'lumps and bumps'.

Special interests

Lower GI endoscopy, all anorectal and colonic problems, including cancer, diverticular disease, IBD, haemorrhoids, fistula-in-ano, anal skin tags and polyps, fissures, rectal bleeding, abdominal complaints/pain, hernias of the abdomen and groin, lumps and bumps.

Other interests

Pelvic floor complaints including difficulties in defecation, incontinence and prolapse.
