About

Gael MacLean has been a Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon since 2014 at Oxford University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. She is currently the Clinical Lead for Breast Surgery in Oxford, based at the Churchill Hospital.

Gael specialises in breast cancer surgery and is passionate about finding the right operation for each individual patient.

She offers a range of therapeutic mammoplasties along with other breast conserving operations. She offers daycase mastectomies as well as breast reconstructive options and axillary (armpit) surgery.

Education

Gael graduated from King’s College Hospital, University of London and completed her surgical training at hospitals in London, Reading, Oxford and during a Fellowship at the Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden.

Teaching and leadership

Gael has an educational portfolio and is committed to high surgical standards and believes the key to this is through excellent training of surgeons.

She is Honorary Secretary of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers based at the Royal College of Surgeons, whose surgical standards have been adopted by the General Medical Council for standardisation of surgical trainers. She has lectured on surgical training internationally and advises on surgeons returning to training after a break.
