About
Mrs Kalaivani Lingam graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1987 and undertook her postgraduate training in obstetrics and gynaecology in the West of Scotland. During this time, she completed a three‑year period of additional training in female urology and general surgery, gaining a Surgical Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
During her gynaecology training, Mrs Lingam gained extensive experience across a wide range of conditions and developed a particular interest in urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and minimally invasive surgical techniques.
Mrs Lingam has worked as a Consultant Gynaecologist for more than 12 years and manages a broad spectrum of gynaecological conditions, including heavy and painful periods, irregular bleeding, pelvic pain, painful bladder syndrome, ovarian cysts, fibroids, endometriosis, sexual and vulval disorders, prolapse, and urinary incontinence.
She performs all major and common gynaecological procedures, including endometrial ablation for heavy menstrual bleeding, laparoscopic management of fibroids and endometriosis, tension‑free vaginal tape procedures for incontinence, laparoscopic, vaginal and abdominal hysterectomy, pelvic floor repairs, and the surgical management of recurrent prolapse and incontinence.
Mrs Lingam’s expertise in urogynaecology was recognised when, under her leadership, the Burton Hospital Urogynaecology Unit achieved National Accreditation in Urogynaecology—only the fifth unit in the United Kingdom to receive this recognition. This accreditation reflects the delivery of consistently high‑quality, patient‑centred care.
