About
Having graduated from University of Glasgow in 1987, Mrs Kalaivani Lingam trained in the West of Scotland in obstetrics and gynaecology. During that time she took three years out to train in female urology and general surgery, obtaining a Surgical Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
While training in gynaecology, she was exposed to a wide range of conditions, developing a special interest in incontinence, prolapse and minimally invasive surgery.
Mrs Lingam has been practicing for over 12 years as a consultant gynaecologist, seeing a wide range of conditions including heavy periods, painful periods, irregular bleeding, pelvic pain, painful bladder syndrome, ovarian cysts, fibroids, endometriosis, sexual and vulva problems, prolapse, and urinary incontinence.
She carries out most common procedures such as endometrial ablation for heavy periods, laparoscopic treatment of fibroids and endometriosis, tension free tape for incontinence, laparoscopic, vaginal and abdominal hysterectomy, pelvic floor repair and treatment of recurrent prolapse and incontinence.
Her work in urogynaecology was recognised when as lead urogynaecologist, her unit in Burton Hospital was awarded National Accreditation in Urogynaecology status, fifth such unit in the United Kingdom. It signifies delivery of a high quality of care.
