About
Mrs Jaishree Gandhewar is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon who specialises in corneal and external eye diseases.
She completed her residency at Aravind Eye Hospital in Madurai, India, and continued her training in the United Kingdom within the West Midlands Deanery. She also completed a Cornea Fellowship at University Hospitals of Leicester and advanced training in Ocular Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire.
Mrs Gandhewar is highly skilled in corneal graft surgery, corneal collagen cross-linking for keratoconus, managing ocular surface diseases, and cataract surgery.
She was Clinical Director of Ophthalmology at Wolverhampton Eye Infirmary from 2021 to 2023, showing her leadership in the field. She now works as both Pharmacy Lead and Cataract Lead at the same institution, leading critical initiatives in eye care management.
Alongside her clinical work, Mrs Gandhewar is an accomplished researcher and educator. She has multiple peer-reviewed publications and has delivered presentations at international conferences. She examines for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, the Sri Lankan Postgraduate Board (2023), and the University of Birmingham Medical School.
She also supports medical education as an Educational Supervisor for Foundation Year 2 trainees, a Clinical Supervisor for Speciality and Foundation trainees, and as a mentor and trainer for specialist nurses, optometrists, and anterior segment imaging technicians.
