About

Mr Platt is a Consultant lower limb surgeon specialising in knee and hip surgery.

He commenced his medical studies in 1994 at St Mary’s Hospital, London and qualified in 2001 with a Distinction in Surgery. He was a prize-winner for his overall performance in final medical exams. 

He holds an additional two degrees; a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Neuroscience from Imperial College, London where he undertook research into Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and later he was awarded a scholarship to Oxford University, studying at University College, Oxford to complete a Master of Science (MSc) in Diagnostic Imaging (Radiology) where he undertook pioneering research into salivary gland imaging.

Mr Platt completed his higher Orthopaedic surgical training on the North West Thames training programme, working in Central London specialist centres including Charing Cross Hospital and Chelsea & Westminster Hospital as well as several busy District General Hospitals. He undertook subspecialist fellowship training in soft tissue knee surgery and knee arthroplasty (replacement) at Tunbridge Wells Hospital, Kent.

He returned to Chelsea and Westminster Hospital to take up an appointment as a Consultant hip and knee surgeon where he worked for two years before moving to Hillingdon and Mount Vernon Hospital where he was worked in his present post since 2017. 

Special interests

Mr Platt's practice encompasses treatment of arthritis of the hip and knee, sports injuries and young adult arthritic conditions of the knee and he has a particular interest in partial (unicondylar/ half) knee replacement surgery.

Mr Platt is the surgical lead for Hip fracture care at Hillingdon Hospital.

Personal interests

Mr Platt is an accomplished sportsman. He played Rugby for England Students U21, English Universities, Harlequins, Oxford University and St Mary’s Hospital/Imperial Medicals. He won an Oxford Blue and a University of London Purple. He competed in National Schools athletics Championships in Decathlon and Javelin. He remains an avid cyclist, building and maintaining his own bicycles. He is an ex-2nd category racing cyclist and still commutes to work by bike when possible.

He has a keen interest in woodwork and DIY and has renovated several properties. He built and raced karts at school, and continues to work on his car in his spare time.

Research

Mr Platt has published several articles on a variety of orthopaedic topics covering both the knee and ankle, on surgical techniques and he has written a book for prospective FRCS exam candidates. 

His MSc research on novel salivary gland imaging techniques was presented at national and international meetings.
