Mr Toby Baring is a highly experienced Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon, specialising in shoulder and elbow conditions, including sports injuries, rotator cuff disorders, shoulder instability, and trauma-related injuries. He performs approximately 300–400 surgical procedures annually, reflecting a high level of expertise and surgical volume.

Mr Baring is committed to delivering advanced, evidence-based treatments and continually adopts the latest surgical techniques and innovations to improve patient recovery, outcomes, and long-term joint function.

Training and Experience

Mr Baring qualified from Newcastle Medical School and went on to complete specialist orthopaedic training on the prestigious Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital rotation in North London. He was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) in Trauma and Orthopaedics in 2012.

He also completed a postgraduate doctorate (PhD) at Imperial College London in 2006, under the supervision of Professor Roger Emery, focusing on rotator cuff pathology and surgical repair techniques.

To further advance his subspecialist expertise, Mr Baring undertook a fellowship in Nice, France, training with internationally renowned shoulder surgeon Professor Pascal Boileau, a leader in shoulder arthroscopy, instability, and joint replacement surgery.

He is currently a Consultant at Imperial NHS Trust and holds the position of Senior Honorary Lecturer, reflecting his ongoing involvement in teaching and academic development.Mr Toby Baring has extensive experience in shoulder replacements, sports injuries, rotator cuff problems and shoulder and elbow trauma; performing 300-400 procedures per year. 

Mr Baring practises the most modern techniques, and constantly looks to improve and innovate treatment to enhance his patients’ recovery and outcomes.

Mr Toby Baring is a consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon and senior honorary lecturer at Imperial NHS Trust. He qualified from Newcastle Medical School. During his specialist training he undertook postgraduate doctorate in 2006 with Professor Roger Emery at Imperial College London, focusing on rotator cuff surgery. His postgraduate orthopaedic training was on the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital rotation in north London, and he passed the FRCS in 2012.

He was fellowship trained in Nice, France with world renowned shoulder specialist, Professor Pascal Boileau. Mr Baring practices specialist shoulder and elbow surgery, using the most modern surgical techniques with an emphasis on arthroscopic rotator cuff and shoulder instability surgery and primary and revision shoulder replacement.
