Mr Batten undertook his undergraduate medical training in Exeter and Plymouth graduating in 2010 with honours. He spent the early years of his postgraduate training in Glasgow and Australia before undertaking his specialist Orthopaedic training in the Devon and Cornwall, training in the nationally renowned Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre in Exeter and the major trauma centre at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.

Towards the end of his Orthopaedic training, he undertook a specialist shoulder and elbow fellowship at the world-famous Guy’s and St. Thomas’ hospitals in London, where he also worked in his first consultancy post. His fellowship gave a high-volume focus on the arthroscopic (keyhole) management of complex shoulder and elbow pathology as well as joint replacement surgery for end stage arthritis.

Since 2022 Mr Batten has worked as a substantive trauma & orthopaedic consultant at Gloucestershire hospitals NHS foundation trust where he works closely with his upper limb colleagues to offer complete assessment and management strategies for all shoulder and elbow conditions including soft tissue injuries, trauma and arthritic joints.
