About
Mr Sunil Auplish is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at York Hospital, specialising in conditions affecting the shoulder, elbow, hand and wrist.
He studied medicine at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals in London and completed his orthopaedic training on the Oxford training programme. During his training, he developed a strong interest in upper limb surgery, finding the treatment of shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand problems particularly rewarding for patients.
Mr Auplish went on to complete specialist fellowship training at Wrightington Hospital in Lancashire, an internationally recognised centre of excellence for upper limb surgery. There, he gained extensive experience in both open surgery and minimally invasive (keyhole) techniques.
He was competitively awarded the prestigious British Elbow and Shoulder Society Travelling Fellowship, which allowed him to visit leading specialist centres across the UK and Europe. He also holds the European Diploma of Hand Surgery.
Mr Auplish has been recognised for outstanding patient care, having been nominated for a Pride Award at Queen’s Hospital in Romford in 2013 and a STAR Award at York Hospital in 2017. Both awards recognise care that goes above and beyond expectations.
In addition to treating arthritis and sports injuries, Mr Auplish has a special interest in helping musicians. He is a keen musician himself, playing the piano, drums and guitar, and understands how arm and hand problems can affect musical performance. He is particularly passionate about helping musicians return to playing at their best.
He was appointed as a Consultant in Essex in 2009 and moved to York in January 2017. He is very happy to be living and working in York.
