About
Mr Summi Abdul is a Consultant specialising in gynaecological cancer, with particular expertise in keyhole and robotic gynaecological cancer surgery. He works at the Royal Derby Hospital and is widely recognised as a specialist in the management of gynaecological cancers.
In addition to cancer care, Mr Abdul has extensive experience in colposcopy and the treatment of benign gynaecological conditions, including painful and abnormal periods, ovarian cysts, painful intercourse, bleeding after intercourse, and vulval conditions.
Mr Abdul is an internationally recognised leader in keyhole hysterectomy.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Leeds in 1995. Following qualification, he trained in multiple Centres of Excellence in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, including St James’s Hospital (Leeds), Leeds General Infirmary, the John Radcliffe Hospital (Oxford), Bradford Royal Infirmary, Sheffield Royal Infirmary, and the Royal Derby Hospital. This breadth of experience has significantly contributed to his advanced clinical expertise in both gynaecology and obstetrics.
In 2006, Mr Abdul was awarded his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, alongside subspecialist accreditation in Gynaecological Oncology. He was subsequently appointed as a Consultant.
Within his specialty, Mr Abdul has a particular interest in minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery. He is a renowned educator in this field and has trained consultant surgeons both nationally and internationally. He is also the Founder and Director of the DELTA Centre.
Mr Abdul is an active member of several professional organisations, including the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and the British Gynaecological Cancer Society.
