About
Mr Vakis graduated from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School in 1989. Following his initial training posts in London, he completed a further 13 years of surgical training within the Wessex region, gaining broad experience in general surgery and developing a specialist interest in coloproctology. During this period, he undertook two and a half years of research into immunotherapy for solid tumours, with a particular focus on melanoma.
In 2003, Mr Vakis was appointed as a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon in Burton‑on‑Trent. He is a highly experienced surgeon with a strong interest in minimally invasive (laparoscopic) techniques, and the majority of his colorectal resections are performed using a laparoscopic approach.
His practice encompasses a wide range of general and colorectal surgical procedures, including:
- Hernia surgery (open and laparoscopic), with many procedures performed under local anaesthetic according to patient preference
- Laparoscopic gallbladder surgery
- Excision of benign skin and soft‑tissue lesions (“lumps and bumps”)
- Upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy, including therapeutic polypectomy and colonic stenting
- Management of pilonidal disease, including procedures with or without rotational flap reconstruction
- Treatment of anal fissures and fistulas
- Investigation and management of rectal bleeding
- Haemorrhoid (piles) treatments
Mr Vakis continues to provide high‑quality, patient‑focused care, combining extensive surgical expertise with a commitment to minimally invasive techniques wherever appropriate.
