Mr Stefan Niculescu

Mr Stefan Niculescu is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon based at Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust with a special interest in hip and knee surgery. He offer a whole array of treatment procedures from joint preservation to replacement and revision joint replacement, and has a particular interest in robotic assisted joint replacement.

He performs hip replacement surgery using a minimally invasive, muscle-sparing approach and robotic-assisted approach. By minimising muscle and tissue damage during surgery, and combined with the precision of robotic-assisted surgery, this complex technique offers a higher patient satisfaction rate, allowing an accurate reconstruction of the hip joint biomechanics, minimising leg length discrepancies and the risk of hip dislocation. As a result, patients have less post-operative pain, they can walk and recover better, allowing for an early discharge home.

He also has an interest in robotic-assisted knee replacement, which allows a very accurate, personalised reconstruction of the patient’s knee 3d anatomy and biomechanics and has a proven better outcome in terms of postoperative pain, recovery and long-term function.

He is specialised in computer-navigated knee replacement for knee joint deformities as well as complex joint reconstruction following previous surgeries. In his daily practice, he also treats general orthopaedic pathology as well as fractures, especially complex fractures of the lower limb.

He has completed the basic orthopaedic training in Europe and after obtaining CCT, has been practicing in the UK since 2013. He has specialised in complex hip and knee surgery through fellowship training at Oxford University Hospitals, UK centre of excellence for complex hip and knee pathology and at Helios ENDO-Klinik Hamburg, a European centre of excellence for revision hip and knee replacement and periprosthetic joint infection. He has completed a further fellowship in computer-navigated joint replacement at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth.
