About
Mr Pickering graduated from the University of Birmingham before completing his basic surgical training in Leicester and his specialist orthopaedic training in Nottingham. He subsequently undertook an additional year of research funded by a competitively awarded Research Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons, leading to the award of a Doctorate of Medicine for his work on novel treatments for orthopaedic infection.
Mr Pickering further enhanced his expertise through a sabbatical at the Harvard‑affiliated Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, USA, where he worked alongside internationally recognised knee arthroplasty specialists. He also completed a year‑long fellowship in Brisbane, Australia, focusing on hip and knee arthroplasty, knee revision surgery and sports medicine.
He has published, presented, and taught both nationally and internationally, and maintains an active involvement in research and education. He works closely with industry partners to advance orthopaedic innovation. Mr Pickering performs between 250 and 300 arthroplasty procedures annually.
