About
I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hip and knee conditions. I have over 20 years of clinical experience.
I treat a wide range of joint problems. My aim is to reduce your pain, improve your movement and help you return to your everyday activities.
I work in both the NHS and private sector. I see private patients at Nuffield Health Derby Hospital and Derby Private Health. I also work at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust.
About me
I graduated in medicine from the University of Birmingham. I completed my surgical training in Leicester and my specialist orthopaedic training in Nottingham.
I carried out a year of research funded by a Royal College of Surgeons fellowship. This led to a Doctorate of Medicine. My research focused on new treatments for orthopaedic infections.
I have also trained internationally. I spent time in Boston, USA, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, which is linked to Harvard. There, I worked with leading specialists in knee replacement surgery.
I completed a further fellowship in Brisbane, Australia. This focused on hip and knee replacement surgery, revision surgery (correcting or improving previous operations) and sports injuries.
Areas of expertise
I specialise in the treatment of hip and knee conditions, including:
- Arthritis of the hip and knee (joint wear and stiffness)
- Knee injuries, including cartilage and ligament problems
- Sports-related knee conditions
- Complex joint problems and revision surgery
I perform a high number of joint replacements each year, including both primary and revision procedures.
Specialist procedures
I offer a wide range of treatments, including:
- Hip replacement
- Knee replacement (total and partial)
- Revision knee replacement (redo surgery if needed)
- Knee arthroscopy (keyhole surgery to look inside the joint)
- Meniscectomy (removal of damaged cartilage)
- Chondroplasty (smoothing damaged cartilage)
- Hemiarthroplasty (partial joint replacement)
- Steroid injections (to reduce pain and inflammation)
- Synvisc One injections (lubrication injections for joint pain)
I also use modern techniques, including advanced and robotic‑assisted surgery where appropriate.
Research and teaching
I am actively involved in research and education. I have published and presented work both nationally and internationally. I also teach and work with industry partners to improve surgical techniques.
