About

Simon Marsh trained at Trinity College Cambridge and the Clinical School, Addenbrooke’s Hospital. He is one of the few students to have been awarded the William Harvey Studentship in consecutive years.

After spending his PRHO year in Ipswich, he went to Oxford where he spent six months as an anatomy demonstrator. His SHO jobs took him to Leicester and Norwich before embarking on a registrar rotation in Ipswich and Cambridge.

He then spent two years doing his MD thesis (awarded by the University of Cambridge) on the molecular biology of breast cancer, at Charing Cross Hospital, before returning to clinical medicine as a Senior Registrar in Norwich.

In 1996 he set up the Ivry Street Minor Surgical Unit with Dr Chris Brown, then a local GP, which ran for nearly 25 years. He organised the North Essex training programme for five years and has been an instructor for ATLS, APLS, ALERT, CCrISP and BSS courses.

In 1999 he was appointed Consultant General Surgeon with a Specialist Interest in Breast Diseases and Surgical Oncology at Colchester in Essex.

He has a keen interest in medical education (not only for doctors, but also for the general public) and has lectured both nationally and internationally on breast diseases, hernias and Gilmore’s Groin, and produced articles and videos that are available on the internet as well as publications in journals.

He presented a weekly local radio show for five years and has produced articles for the BBC as well as making a documentary for Channel 4.

Mr Marsh now divides his time between Essex and Suffolk and 108 Harley Street, where he is Surgical Director of the Gilmore’s Groin and Hernia Clinic and a member of the 108 Harley Street Breast Clinic (where he is the MDT lead) and the 108 Harley Street Sports and Injury Clinic. He is also Chairman of the MAC.
