About

After completing his basic medical degree, Mr Murthy joined a five-year Specialist Registrar Training Programme in Ophthalmology in the West Midlands, basing himself at the Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre. This programme provided him with broad clinical and surgical experience across all major eye subspecialties. He then completed two prestigious Fellowships in Glaucoma and Cataract Surgery.

Mr Murthy completed his UK Glaucoma and Cataract Fellowship with Professor Phillip Bloom at the Western Eye Hospital in London, a leading specialist eye hospital within Imperial College London. Professor Bloom is a nationally recognised expert in glaucoma and cataract surgery.

Following this, Mr Murthy undertook an additional Advanced Glaucoma Fellowship with Dr M. A. Latina at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston, part of Harvard University. This world‑renowned centre is consistently ranked among the top eye hospitals in the United States. Dr Latina is the inventor of Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) — a highly effective and safe laser treatment for glaucoma, now recommended by NICE as a first‑line treatment for newly diagnosed glaucoma.


Special interests

Micro-incision cataract surgery/phacoemulsification, including the use of multifocal and toric lens implants to achieve spectacle independence and correction of astigmatism post cataract surgery. 

Mr Murthy provides completely comprehensive surgical and laser treatment of glaucoma and specialises in state-of-the-art, modern, minimally invasive glaucoma procedures (MIGS) to treat coexisting cataracts and glaucoma.

Personal interests

In addition to pursuing a career in ophthalmology, I play cricket and tennis. I love travelling and exploring different places and culture.
