About
Mr Shafi Chowdhury is a highly experienced Consultant Urological Surgeon with over 20 years of practice in the UK. He has trained and worked across leading district general and teaching hospitals, including Oxford University Hospitals, Imperial College Healthcare, and University College London Hospitals.
He specialises in general urology, with a particular focus on female, functional, and neuro-urology. His main clinical interests include the assessment and management of urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, and voiding dysfunction, helping patients regain confidence and improve their quality of life.
Training & Background
Mr Chowdhury completed his surgical training in the UK and has held posts in several prestigious institutions. He served as a SAS Tutor with the Oxford Deanery for three years and was awarded a teaching award from Oxford University in recognition of his contribution to medical education.
He undertook a specialist fellowship at University College London Hospital in female, functional, reconstructive, and neuro-urology, further developing his expertise in complex urological conditions.
He later worked as a Consultant at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, before being appointed as a Consultant Urological Surgeon at Barts Health NHS Trust, where he currently practises at Whipps Cross and Newham University Hospitals.

- Serves as lead for benign urology services across the Trust
