About
Mr Antonakis is a Consultant Ophthalmologist with specialist expertise in vitreoretinal surgery, retinal conditions and complex cataract surgery. He leads the Vitreoretinal Service and is Clinical Lead of the Ophthalmology group at University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust.
He has extensive surgical experience in Vitreoretinal and Cataract procedures (including lens exchange, refractive lens replacement and complex cases) using minimally invasive surgical techniques.
His areas of expertise include retinal detachment, macular hole, epiretinal membrane, floaters, vitreous haemorrhage and management of diabetic eye disease. His surgery success rates for cataract surgery, retinal detachment, and macular hole surgery meet the highest international standards.

Teaching
Alongside his clinical work, Mr Antonakis is actively involved in teaching. He is a Visiting Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Southampton and a certified Educational and Clinical Supervisor for the Royal College of Ophthalmology in Wessex Deanery.
He is also a faculty member for the National Introductory Vitrectomy and Buckle Courses for BEAVRS (British & Eire Association of Vitreo-Retinal Surgeons).
