About
Sanjoy Basu is a Consultant General, Upper GI, Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgeon for the East Kent University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at the William Harvey Hospital, Ashford.
He qualified from the University of Calcutta, India. He obtained his specialist training in upper gastrointestinal, laparoscopic and bariatric(obesity) surgery from Mr M Rees, Mr T John, Mr S Somers and Mr N Davies. He completed a fellowship in Bariatric Surgery under Prof D Kerrigan. He has extensive experience in laparoscopic surgery and works as a faculty for both basic and advanced laparoscopic surgery courses both in the UK and abroad.
His research interest includes clinical research in hiatal and abdominal wall reconstruction, QOL after hiatal and abdominal wall reconstruction surgery. He has made several presentations at national and international meetings and has over 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals.
He is a member of the British Hernia Society
subcommittee for Abdominal Wall Reconstruction. He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer, the GKT School of Medical Education, King's
College London and heads the teaching program in surgery, WHH, East Kent
University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He is also the Surgical Lead for
Kent & Canterbury Medical School, Canterbury and St George's Medical
School, London. He is an Assistant
Professor at the Department of Surgery, St George's University School of Medicine,
Grenada and leads the teaching program in surgery for these
international students.
