Mr Samir Hakeem

Mr Samir Hakeem is an experienced Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in the diagnosis, treatment and surgical management of a wide range of foot and ankle conditions, orthopaedic injuries and complex trauma cases. Based at Borders General Hospital, NHS Scotland, he has more than 15 years of international clinical experience across the UK, Ireland and Egypt, providing expert care for patients with acute injuries, chronic musculoskeletal conditions and degenerative joint disorders.

His expertise includes the treatment of open fractures, peri-articular fractures, multiple injuries, non-union fractures, malunion deformities, and complex post-traumatic reconstruction. He provides comprehensive trauma care from initial diagnosis and emergency management through to definitive surgery, rehabilitation and recovery.

After graduating with honours from Ain Shams University in 2006, Mr Hakeem completed extensive higher surgical training and obtained several prestigious professional qualifications, including FRCS (Trauma & Orthopaedics), FEBOT (Fellow of the European Board of Orthopaedics and Traumatology), MRCS (England) and the SICOT Diploma. These qualifications reflect his commitment to maintaining the highest standards of orthopaedic practice and patient care.

To further develop his subspecialist expertise, he completed dedicated fellowship training in:

• Foot and Ankle Surgery at the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle
• Complex Trauma and Limb Reconstruction Surgery at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge

These internationally recognised fellowships provided advanced training in limb reconstruction, deformity correction, bone reconstruction, complex fracture fixation, external fixation techniques, and the management of challenging orthopaedic conditions requiring specialist surgical intervention.

His research interests focus on improving surgical outcomes, trauma care, foot and ankle reconstruction, and evidence-based orthopaedic treatments.

As a dedicated educator and mentor, he is actively involved in training future orthopaedic surgeons through teaching programmes, surgical skills training and postgraduate mentorship.

Since 2017, Mr Hakeem has also led international orthopaedic charity missions in Africa, providing specialist trauma and reconstructive surgery to patients in underserved communities.
