About
Mr Samir Hakeem is an experienced Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist focus on foot and ankle surgery.
He is based at Borders General Hospital, NHS Scotland, and has more than 15 years of international clinical experience across the UK, Ireland and Egypt.
Mr Hakeem has advanced expertise in treating a wide range of foot and ankle conditions, complex fractures and elective orthopaedic problems.
Mr Hakeem is dedicated to delivering high‑quality, patient‑centred care. He combines evidence‑based practice with a compassionate approach, ensuring that patients receive the most effective treatments for their foot, ankle, and trauma‑related conditions.
Education
After graduating with honours from Ain Shams University in 2006, Mr Hakeem completed extensive higher surgical training and achieved several respected qualifications, including FRCS (Tr & Orth), FEBOT, MRCS (Eng) and the SICOT Diploma.
He has undertaken dedicated subspecialty fellowships in:
- Foot and Ankle Surgery at the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle
- Complex Trauma and Limb Reconstruction at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge.
Teaching and research
Alongside his clinical practice, Mr Hakeem is actively involved in research and education. He has authored peer‑reviewed publications, contributed to orthopaedic book chapters, and presented his work at major international meetings such as AOFAS and EFAS.
He is also committed to training the next generation of surgeons through teaching and mentorship roles.
Activism
Since 2017, Mr Hakeem has led orthopaedic charity missions in Africa, supporting global health initiatives and providing specialist surgical care in underserved communities.
