About
Mr Robert Clarke works as a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at the Nuffield Health Shrewsbury Hospital and at the Royal Shrewsbury and Telford NHS trust. He has a specialist interest in laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery.
Mr Clarke graduated from St Mary’s Hospital Medical School (Imperial College,London), and has worked as a junior doctor in London, the South Coast of England and Perth, Western Australia. His higher surgical training and colorectal subspecialisation was in the Wessex region where his advanced laparoscopic skills were further developed working for a year at the National Laparoscopic Training unit in Portsmouth. He was competitively awarded and completed a 7 month fellowship in laparoscopic colorectal surgery at The Bradford Royal Infirmary Teaching Hospital - also a National Training Unit for Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery. He has published and delivered presentations nationally has been an instructor on national courses teaching other consultants advanced techniques in laparoscopic bowel surgery. Mr Clarke is an accredited Trainer for the National Training Programme in Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery.
Other interests
Mr Clarke specialises in general and colorectal surgery and has a specific interest in minimally invasive laparoscopic surgical techniques as well as enhanced recovery after surgery. He provides a comprehensive general surgical service including laparoscopic incisional and groin hernia surgery. He also delivers specialist care in colon and rectal cancer surgery, diverticular disease, inflammatory bowel disease, rectal prolapse and all aspects of minor proctology including pilonidal sinus, haemorrhoids and anal fissure and fistula disease.
