About

Mr Richard Kapur is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in knee surgery and complex lower-limb trauma. He treats a wide range of conditions, from sports injuries in active patients to degenerative and arthritic problems requiring joint preservation or replacement. He is committed to providing clear, honest advice and evidence-based treatments tailored to each patient’s goals.

Richard’s expertise includes ACL and multi-ligament reconstruction, arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery, meniscal and cartilage repair, patellofemoral instability, corrective osteotomy, and both partial and total knee replacement, including revision surgery. He also manages complex fractures around the knee and lower limb.

Richard completed his training in the Severn Deanery, followed by advanced fellowships in Sheffield and at the Major Trauma Centre in North Bristol, gaining extensive experience in complex knee and trauma surgery. He later worked as a locum consultant in West Suffolk, a centre of excellence for partial knee replacement, before taking up a substantive consultant role at Somerset NHS Foundation Trust.

Richard holds a Master’s degree in Orthopaedic Engineering from the University of Cardiff and has published and presented research internationally. He is actively involved in teaching and is a member of key national knee surgery societies, maintaining a strong focus on patient-centered care.

Outside of his clinical practice, Richard enjoys an active lifestyle and values spending quality time with his family, particularly his two young daughters. He enjoys tennis, football, is a keen cyclist, and in the winter months an enthusiastic skier.
