About
Mr Per Hall was appointed as a consultant plastic surgeon in 1995 to Addenbrooke's Hospital where he initially specialised in general plastic surgery and melanoma alongside paediatric plastic surgery and cleft lip and palate. From 2002 he led the East Anglian Cleft Lip and Palate Service and remained involved in the care of children with cleft lip and palate both at Addenbrooke's and abroad with the charity Operation Smile. He helped set up a Plastic Surgery and Cleft Service in Jimma rural Ethiopia. Per retired from the NHS in 2023 but continues to work in the private sector and as a locum skin cancer Consultant alongside the dermatologists at the West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds.
Surgical Areas.
Mr Hall is no longer taking on new patients for cosmetic surgery procedures and
will cease cosmetic surgery by the end of 2026.
Mr Hall has longstanding research interest in early detection and management of skin cancers and works closely with dermatology colleagues to look after patients with any potential skin cancer. Mr Hall also carries out mole removal for cosmetic purposes as well as removal of worrying moles (suspicious perhaps of melanoma). He will continue to see children who may have a skin lesion that needs attention – often after referral from a dermatology colleague. Mr Hall takes referrals directly, from General Practitioners and colleagues in dermatology for skin lesion assessment and management and via his secretary to offer a “One-Stop” service for analysis of skin lesions and removal if deemed appropriate on the day.
Skin cancers (such as basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma) are all things Mr Hall commonly does. These might require small local skin grafts or reconstructive “flaps” but are usually straightforward to do under local anaesthetic and often on a “One Stop” basis if appropriate.
Common skin swellings such as cysts and lipomas are usually straightforward to remove under local anaesthetic but occasionally larger lesions might need daycase theatre management sometimes requiring a general anaesthetic.
Mr Hall is currently a Locum Consultant at the West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds offering support to colleagues in dermatology by helping with skin cancer biopsy lists having retired from Addenbrooke's Hospital in 2023. He is also the Clinical Advisor for skin for a telemedicine screening company Check 4 Cancer and he lectures on the diagnosis of skin lesions using dermoscopy (a technique that enables detailed information about what a skin lesion looks like via the use of polarized light – recommended by NICE as the standard of care when diagnosing skin cancers).
