About
Mr Paul Leeder is an experienced Consultant General Surgeon who specialises in keyhole (laparoscopic) surgery. His main areas of expertise include upper digestive system (upper GI) surgery, weight‑loss (bariatric) surgery, and hernia repair.
He treats a wide range of conditions including obesity, acid reflux, gallstones, cancers of the oesophagus and stomach, and abdominal wall hernias. He also performs endoscopy (a camera test of the upper digestive system) to help diagnose and treat problems.
Mr Leeder is highly skilled in minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery and performs over 300 procedures each year. This approach usually means smaller cuts, less pain after surgery, and a quicker recovery for patients.
He studied medicine at the University of Sheffield and qualified in 1989. He then completed his surgical training in several major UK centres, including Nottingham, Leeds and Oxford.
Mr Leeder has also completed advanced specialist training in keyhole upper GI and weight‑loss surgery in the UK and overseas. This includes training in Australia, France and Germany. His international experience means he uses up‑to‑date techniques and best practice from around the world.
He was appointed as a Consultant Surgeon in Derby in 2002 and has since worked in both the NHS and private sector, caring for patients across Derby and Nottingham.
