About
Mr Pratheek Chikkalur is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in disorders of the upper limb, including the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand.
He is fully registered on the GMC Specialist Register and holds dual board certification through the FRCS Tr & Orth from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the European FEBOT qualification.
Mr Chikkalur currently serves as a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, where his practice covers the full range of shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand conditions.

Education
His expertise is underpinned by fellowship training at some of the world's leading upper limb units. He completed an advanced upper limb fellowship at the Alps Surgical Institute in Annecy, France, training directly under Laurent and Thibault Lafosse.
He went on to refine his sub-specialist skills in the UK at the Derby Shoulder Unit and the Pulvertaft Hand Centre, and completed a further fellowship in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy at Singapore General Hospital.

Personal interests
Outside of clinical practice, Mr Chikkalur is an amateur golfer who enjoys the game whenever time allows.
He swims and practises yoga daily, finding both help him stay physically and mentally balanced amid a busy schedule.
He also has a keen interest in investing, taking a long-term approach to the markets, and is an avid reader who enjoys books across a wide range of genres.

Mr Chikkalur's research interests centre on minimally invasive techniques in upper limb surgery, particularly shoulder arthroscopy. He's drawn to how keyhole approaches and modern implant technology, including stemless shoulder replacements and fully 3D-planned arthroplasty, can reduce surgical trauma while still delivering accurate, long-lasting joint reconstruction.
A recurring theme in his work is faster recovery. He's interested in how less invasive surgery, paired with structured physiotherapy from the earliest stages, helps patients regain strength and get back to daily life sooner than traditional open techniques allow.
Closely tied to this is an interest in patient-specific planning – using pre-operative imaging to tailor implant choice and positioning to each patient's own anatomy, rather than applying a standard approach across the board.
He also maintains a broader interest in outcomes research: looking at how technical refinements in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery translate into better pain relief, function, and patient satisfaction in practice. Taken together, these interests reflect his wider commitment to evidence-based innovation – making complex upper limb procedures safer, quicker to recover from, and more precisely suited to the individual in front of him.
