About

Mr Sains is a Consultant General Surgeon who has a specialist interest in day surgery procedures such as hernia repair, gallbladder surgery and proctology (haemorrhoids, fissure and fistula surgery). He also performs diagnostic tests (colonoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy) for investigation of bowel symptoms such as a change in bowel habit, rectal bleeding and also for patients who have had a FIT (stool test for blood) positive test.

Apart from his clinical experience, Mr Sains has published numerous scientific and clinical research papers and continues this interest. He also holds a Master of Laws (LLM) in medical law and is the current medicolegal lead for the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland (ASGBI). His other positions include being an Expert Witness for the General Medical Council (GMC) and he has a keen interest in patient safety and human factors.

Mr Sains brings with him 30 years of experience of working with the NHS and independent sector. He qualified from Birmingham Medical School, where he also taught anatomy after completing his pre-registration period. This was followed by an extensive surgical training period in London, Surrey and Sussex, which included working at Guy’s and St Thomas’, St George’s and St Mary’s Hospitals, as well as numerous district general hospitals.

Mr Sains places a great emphasis on communication and patient involvement in shared decision making with regards to investigations and potential treatments or operations.
