About
Oliver Harley is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon with over 22 years of experience and a rare dual specialisation in hand surgery and cosmetic surgery.
Education
Holding an MBBS, BSc, MBA and FRCSEd (Plastic Surgery), Oliver is fully GMC registered as a specialist in plastic surgery and is a member of several leading professional bodies, including BAPRAS, BSSH, BAAPS and UKAAPS.
His surgical training was shaped by experience in London teaching Hospitals, more locally in East Grinstead and also specialist fellowships – Cosmetic Surgery McIndoe Centre in East Grinstead, and Hand Surgery at Wrightington Hospital and the Erasmus Rotterdam Medical Centre.
Clinical experience
He has held Consultant posts in Plymouth, Oxford and Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead, building a busy practice that encompasses approximately 400 hand surgery cases and 100 cosmetic procedures each year, alongside a growing role as a medico-legal expert witness.
Research and humanitarian work
Oliver's career reflects a genuine commitment to advancing his field and to giving back. He has previously participated in hand surgery charitable expeditions to West Africa, run plastic surgery courses for Royal College of Surgeons and has conducted research into finger joint replacements and the blood supply of abdominal skin in the context of abdominoplasty surgery.
This blend of clinical excellence, academic curiosity and humanitarian work underpins an approach to patient care that is as thoughtful as it is skilled.
Approach to care
At the heart of Oliver's practice is a belief that patients deserve clear, honest and relatable information so they can make informed decisions about their own care. He understands that every choice – whether to proceed with surgery or explore alternatives – has real implications for how people live their lives.
As someone who enjoys an active outdoor lifestyle
himself, Oliver has a personal
appreciation for how physical conditions can limit the activities that matter
most, and how recovery from treatment needs to fit in as best as possible into
daily lives and commitments.
