About

Mr Nik Sharma is a Consultant Sports Knee Surgeon who specialises exclusively in knee surgery.

He is known for his approachable, compassionate manner and has extensive experience in diagnosing and managing a wide range of knee conditions. His expertise covers sports injuries, joint preservation techniques, arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery, and knee replacement procedures. In particular, he performs procedures such as anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, helping patients restore stability and function after ligament injury.

A keen sports enthusiast, Mr Sharma has also worked as a crowd doctor at major sporting events, including cricket at Lord’s, and completed the London Marathon in 2023.

Having personally experienced and recovered from a knee injury, he has a genuine understanding of both the physical and psychological challenges patients face. This perspective allows him to deliver truly personalised care, combining surgical and non-surgical treatment options to support patients of all activity levels in returning to their best possible function—whether that’s elite sport or everyday life.

Education

Mr Sharma completed his specialist training through the Oswestry–Stoke rotation, followed by a Sports Knee Fellowship at Wrightington. He has also undertaken international travelling fellowships in Canada and France, where he further developed his skills in treating both amateur and professional athletes.

Teaching and Research

Alongside his clinical work, Mr Sharma is actively involved in teaching and research. He has published widely in peer-reviewed journals and was awarded the Professor’s Medal for his pioneering research into a new classification system for patellofemoral (kneecap) instability.
