About
Nick Carter is a Specialist Laparoscopic, Robotic Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgeon. He has been a Consultant Surgeon since 2013. His NHS practice is at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust.
Nick specialises in diseases of the oesophagus and stomach, including weight loss and metabolic surgery, reflux and hiatus hernia, gallbladder, and all forms of hernia surgery.
During his training, he spent two and a half years in South Africa before completing his Master’s in Surgical Science at Imperial College London. Following a postgraduate fellowship in Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery at University College Hospital London, he was appointed as a Consultant in Portsmouth in 2013.
Nick set up the Da Vinci Robotic Upper GI Surgery programme in 2019. He now trains other surgeons in robotic surgery in the UK and Europe. He is a member of Council for the British Obesity & Metabolic Surgery Society and runs the annual conference and scientific meeting for the Society.
Nick lives in Hampshire with his wife, three children, dog, chickens and guinea pigs. He enjoys running with his dog and has completed four marathons and one ultra race in the last year. He also keeps bees and makes honey.
