About

I am a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon with over 20 years of experience in eye care. I provide private treatment at Nuffield Health Derby Hospital, seeing patients from Derby, Chesterfield and Nottingham.

I grew up in Derby and completed my education locally. I then studied medicine at Sheffield Medical School.

I carried out my specialist training in ophthalmology in Nottingham and Derby. I also completed advanced training in medical retina and uveitis (inflammation inside the eye) in Birmingham, Nottingham and Derby.

Alongside my private work, I am the NHS Clinical Lead for Ophthalmology.

I am known for my patient‑centred approach. I take time to understand your concerns and explain things clearly.

Surgical experience

I have performed over 20,000 cataract operations. This includes many complex cases.

Areas of expertise

I diagnose and treat a wide range of eye conditions, including:

  • Cataracts (clouding of the natural lens in the eye)
  • Age-related macular degeneration (AMD), which affects central vision
  • Diabetic eye disease (damage to the retina caused by diabetes)
  • Retinal vein occlusion (blockage of a vein in the eye)
  • Uveitis (inflammation inside the eye)
  • Glaucoma (a condition that can damage the optic nerve)
  • Red or painful eyes
  • Eyelid conditions, including lumps such as chalazion

Specialist procedures

I offer a range of treatments, including:

  • Micro‑incision cataract surgery (using very small cuts for faster recovery)
  • Standard and premium lens implants, including lenses that can reduce the need for glasses
  • Treatments for retinal conditions
  • Removal of eyelid lumps and minor skin lesions
