About

Mr Michael Field has been a substantive Trauma and Orthopaedic Consultant at Ipswich Hospital and the Essex and Suffolk Elective Orthopaedic Centre (ESEOC) since September 2024. He is also is the Clinical Lead for Trauma and Orthopaedics at Ipswich Hospital. 

Mr Field specialises exclusively in hip replacement and revision hip replacement. He enjoys a high-volume revision hip replacement practice in the NHS, having performed three times the national average number of revision hip replacements from 2025 to 26.

Education

Mr Field qualified from Imperial College in 2012 and trained in orthopaedics in London, the Oxford School of Surgery, and in Kent, Surrey and Sussex. 


He is fellowship-trained in anterior and posterior approach hip replacement, having completed the Frimley Hip Fellowship and the Ottawa Adult Reconstruction and Periprosthetic Joint Infection Fellowship.

Mr Field has both published and presented internationally on hip research and hip replacement surgery.

He has authored chapters in text books including The Adult Hip, Hip Arthroplasty Surgery, 4th Edition.

He won the 2024 Cutlers’ prize for his design of a revision hip replacement instrument.
