About
Mr Giles is an experienced Consultant General and Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) Surgeon who has been practising at York for more than 15 years.
He has specialist expertise in general surgery and upper GI surgery. He provides expert care in the management of both benign and malignant upper GI conditions, with a strong focus on minimally invasive (laparoscopic) surgery.
He has significant experience in open surgery and performs both diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, including:

He is also a trained bariatric surgeon offering a variety of procedures under the NHS only.
Education and qualifications
Mr Giles completed his medical degree at London University in 1994, followed by basic and higher surgical training within the Yorkshire Deanery.
His academic achievements include:
- Wellcome Research Fellowship
- MRC/Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh Fellowship
- PhD at the University of Leeds
He also undertook advanced fellowship training through the Ethicon Laparoscopic Bariatric Fellowship, further developing his expertise in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery.
Teaching
Mr Giles also regularly teaches and leads laparoscopic surgery courses at the Royal College of Surgeons, contributing to national surgical training.
