About Mr Mark Farndon
Mr Mark Farndon is a highly experienced Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in all aspects of foot and ankle surgery, including sports injuries, joint replacement, deformity correction, arthroscopic (keyhole) techniques, minimally invasive surgery, and revision procedures. He also treats a wide range of knee conditions, with a particular interest in arthroscopic knee surgery and knee replacement.
Appointed as a consultant in 2010, Mr Farndon leads a busy practice in Harrogate and currently serves as Clinical Lead for Trauma & Orthopaedics at Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust. His specialist training includes dedicated foot & ankle and knee surgery fellowships, providing a broad and advanced skillset for managing both routine and complex lower-limb problems.
Mr Farndon works closely with a multidisciplinary team of physiotherapists, podiatrists, orthotists and fellow surgeons to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care. He places strong emphasis on clear communication and shared decision-making, ensuring patients fully understand their diagnosis and treatment options.

Teaching, Training & Professional Roles
Mr Farndon is deeply committed to education and surgical training. His interest began early during his time as a Demonstrator in Anatomy and Clinical Skills at Newcastle University. He has over 10 years’ experience teaching on Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) courses and is an accredited ATLS Instructor.
More recently, he has been invited to teach pitch-side emergency care for major sporting bodies, including:
- Rugby Football Union (Immediate Care in Sport)
- The Football Association (AREA courses)
He is Sector Tutor for Orthopaedic Higher Surgical Training, representing Harrogate on the regional Surgical Training Committee. He also organises the annual regional mock FRCS (Tr & Orth) examinations and supervises junior doctors through both educational and clinical roles.
He teaches regularly at local, regional, and national orthopaedic courses.

Other interests
Mark's interest in teaching and training began whilst working for Newcastle University as a Demonstrator in Anatomy and Clinical Skills.

More recently he has been invited to teach as an Instructor on pitch-side emergency courses for the Rugby Football Union (Immediate Care in Sport) and the Football Association (AREA).
Mark is the Sector Tutor for Orthopaedic Higher Surgical Training, representing Harrogate on the regional Surgical Training Committee and organises the annual regional mock FRCS (Tr&Orth) exams. He is an Educational and Clinical Supervisor to a number of junior doctors in training and teaches a variety of local and national instructional courses.
Personal interests
Outside of clinical practice, Mr Farndon enjoys cycling, running, triathlon, snowboarding, cooking, and spending time with his family. He is also a regular supporter on the sidelines watching his sons play rugby.
