About

I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in shoulder and elbow conditions. I provide care for a wide range of upper limb problems, including injuries and long‑term conditions.

My aim is to reduce your pain, improve your movement and help you return to your normal activities.

Training and experience

I qualified in medicine at the University of Pretoria in South Africa. I completed my early medical training in Johannesburg before moving to the UK in 1996.

I carried out my basic surgical training in Essex and gained my Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS) in 2000.

I then completed higher specialist training in orthopaedics in the Midlands. I trained in upper limb units in both Derby and Nottingham, focusing on shoulder and elbow surgery.

To develop my expertise further, I completed international fellowships:

  • In Cape Town, where I gained experience in treating complex shoulder instability, particularly in sports injuries
  • With a specialist in elbow surgery, focusing on complex injuries and joint replacements

I joined the Specialist Register in 2008 and was appointed as a Consultant in 2009.

Alongside my clinical work, I support training and education. I am a supervisor for the Derby Shoulder Unit Fellowship, where I help train future surgeons.

Areas of expertise

I specialise in both keyhole (arthroscopic) and open surgery for shoulder and elbow conditions. I treat:

  • Shoulder and elbow arthritis
  • Sports injuries and joint instability
  • Rotator cuff problems (damage to shoulder tendons)
  • Frozen shoulder (pain and stiffness in the shoulder)
  • Fractures, including collarbone (clavicle) and elbow injuries

  • Shoulder and elbow joint replacement surgery (including complex revision surgery)
  • Arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery for shoulder problems
  • Rotator cuff repair
  • Surgery for shoulder instability and dislocations
  • Treatment of fractures using modern fixation techniques
  • Surgery for frozen shoulder
