About
Mr Anandan is an experienced Consultant Ophthalmologist with extensive expertise in cataract, corneal, refractive and glaucoma surgery. He has a strong background in both NHS and private practice and is recognised for his high‑volume, high‑quality surgical work.
Mr Anandan is skilled in:
- Cataract surgery and premium intraocular lenses (IOLs)
- Refractive surgery, including SMILE, LASIK, LASEK, PTK and PRESBYOND
- Refractive lens exchange (RLE) and implantable contact lenses (ICL)
- Corneal transplantation, including endothelial keratoplasty (DSAEK)
- Surgical management of keratoconus (cross‑linking, Intacs, penetrating keratoplasty)
- Glaucoma surgery, including trabeculectomy
- Minor eyelid procedures (cysts and chalazion)
Surgical outcomes
Mr Anandan is among the small number of UK surgeons performing over 1,000 cataract procedures per year, with:
- More than 10,000 cataract operations completed
- Over 1,000 premium IOLs implanted in the private sector
- More than 500 corneal transplants
- Over 200 trabeculectomies
His breadth and depth of experience position him as a leading surgeon in complex and high‑precision ophthalmic procedures.
Fellowship and Advanced Training
Mr Anandan completed higher surgical training in Ophthalmology on the Oxford Rotation, gaining comprehensive general ophthalmic experience.
He then undertook a prestigious Cornea, Cataract and Glaucoma Fellowship at Royal Perth Hospital, Western Australia (January 2007 – January 2008). During this time, he gained significant expertise in:
- Premium cataract surgery
- Corneal transplantation
- Ocular surface disease
- Refractive laser surgery
- Trabeculectomy and glaucoma tube surgery
To further enhance his corneal expertise, he also completed an honorary fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital in the Cornea Department under Professor John Dart, focusing on advanced ocular surface disease management.

- Dry eye diagnosis and management
- Minor eyelid procedures, including stye and eyelid cyst removal

Mr Anandan’s research focuses primarily on cataract and corneal surgery, with a particular emphasis on optimising unaided (glasses‑free) visual outcomes following surgery. His work aims to refine techniques and technologies that improve refractive accuracy, visual quality and patient satisfaction.
He has led two randomised controlled trials investigating:
- Recurrent Corneal Erosion Syndrome – evaluating treatment strategies to improve corneal stability and patient comfort.
- Aspheric Intraocular Lenses – assessing visual outcomes and refractive performance to enhance postoperative spectacle independence.
