About
Mr Joshua Francois has a strong foundation in Sports Science and Management, including the study of physiology, kinesiology, anatomy and psychology, this clinician developed an early understanding of human movement, performance and injury prevention before pursuing a career in Podiatry. He went on to complete professional podiatry training at the University of Salford, a leading institution recognised for its expertise in biomechanics, developing advanced knowledge in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of foot, ankle and lower limb conditions.
After qualifying as a Podiatrist in 2012, he pursued a specialist interest in foot and ankle surgery, completing a Master's degree in the Principles of Podiatric Surgery. This advanced training further enhanced his expertise in clinical diagnostics, pharmacology, surgical interventions, biomechanical assessment, and evidence-based treatment planning, enabling them to provide comprehensive care across a wide range of musculoskeletal and podiatric conditions.
He specialises in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of foot and ankle pain, helping patients of all ages maintain mobility, improve function and return to the activities they enjoy. His clinical practice includes the management of:
- Sports injuries
- Running-related injuries
- Heel pain and plantar fasciitis
- Achilles tendon disorders
- Ankle instability
- Tendon and ligament injuries
- Biomechanical abnormalities
- Flat feet and high arches
- Forefoot pain
- Bunions (hallux valgus)
- Metatarsalgia
- Stress fractures
- Arthritic foot and ankle conditions
- Overuse injuries
- Gait and movement disorders
Using detailed biomechanical assessment, gait analysis and clinical examination, they develop personalised treatment plans designed to address the underlying cause of symptoms rather than simply treating the pain. Treatment options may include custom orthotics, exercise therapy, rehabilitation programmes, strength and conditioning advice, footwear assessment, injury prevention strategies, shockwave therapy, and referral for advanced imaging or surgical opinion where appropriate.
His expertise in podiatry, combined with a lifelong passion for sport, running, speed and agility, underpins a strong commitment to helping patients remain active and achieve their performance goals. He regularly works with recreational runners, endurance athletes and active individuals seeking specialist assessment for injury prevention, rehabilitation and return to sport.
Having worked extensively across both the NHS and private sector in London before relocating to Edinburgh in 2021, He has gained broad experience managing a wide range of musculoskeletal, sports medicine and podiatric conditions. He currently works within NHS Lothian and at Nuffield Health Edinburgh Hospital, providing expert podiatry care through specialist clinics focused on foot health, lower limb function and movement optimisation.
Committed to delivering evidence-based, patient-centred care, he takes a holistic approach to assessment, diagnosis and treatment, helping patients reduce pain, improve mobility, enhance performance and maintain long-term foot and ankle health.
