About
Mr Jon Mutimer is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Cheltenham General Hospital. His role is to provide an elective hip and knee arthroplasty practice as well as a commitment to the trauma service.
His training has been in the South West, interspersed with time spent in New Zealand and Australia. He qualified from the University of Bristol Medical School in 1997 and underwent training in Oxford, Sydney and Bath prior to higher surgical training in Bristol.
He was awarded a fellowship in January 2008 to work in Wellington, New Zealand for a year working with Professor Geoff Horne and Peter Devane. This enabled him to pursue his interest in primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty as well as spending time teaching and undertaking research. This research into monitoring wear of current hip replacements may improve the longevity of hip replacements in the future by identifying reasons for wear and loosening. He currently sits on the National Joint Registry Implant Selection Committee looking at longevity of implants and how to improve outcomes following surgery.
Mr Mutimer is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and a member of the British Orthopaedic Association. During his training he has presented and published papers on a broad range of subjects including hip trauma, knee arthroplasty and wrist arthritis. He has a keen interest in teaching and is involved in selection and exam preparation for junior surgeons.
His specialist interests are primary and revision hip arthroplasty including hip resurfacing. As well as total knee arthroplasty he performs unicompartmental knee arthroplasty and arthroscopy. He also treats a broad range of general orthopaedic conditions.
