About
Mr O’Callaghan completed his undergraduate medical training at the University of Southampton in 2012. This was follow by academic training in Cardiff and surgical training in Bristol. His specialist Trauma & Orthopaedic training was obtained within the Severn deanery. This was followed by national as well as international orthopaedic and neurosurgical spinal fellowship training.
He was appointed Consultant Orthopaedic Spinal surgeon in Gloucestershire NHS Foundation Trust in 2025.
Mr O’Callaghan is fully trained in all aspects of spinal surgery to provide expert and individualised spinal care whilst using the latest evidence based techniques. He is a proponent of daycase and minimally invasive surgery where appropriate.
Jamie works with a multitude of healthcare professionals to ensure patients are comprehensively managed throughout their treatment He advocates for patient empowerment and a patient centred approach, in order to tailor the most appropriate management plan to the individual needs of each patient.
At the core of Mr O’Callaghan’s spinal operative and non-operative decisions are strong evidence and national guidance. He acts as a reviewer for British Bone and Joint Journal. In addition, he has published multiple peer reviewed journal articles and presented at both national and international conferences. He maintains strict adherence to clinical governance principles. His work continues to be presented at national and international conference. As the ‘Doctors in Training lead’ he feels an immense responsibility to mentor and train the surgeons of the future.

Jamie is a keen sportsman with a particular interest in road running, cycling, swimming and skiing. He regularly swims in the Cheltenham lido. He also represents the British Boxing Board of Control as a ringside doctor covering professional boxing bouts.
