About
Mr James Wilson is a highly experienced Consultant Urological Surgeon who has been caring for patients in York since 2004. He completed his medical training at Sheffield University in 1992 and has worked across the Yorkshire region, gaining wide‑ranging expertise in all areas of urology.
Mr Wilson has a special interest in the diagnosis and treatment of urological cancers. He leads the Urological Cancer Services at York Hospital and introduced laparoscopic (keyhole) kidney surgery there in 2008. He also has particular expertise in prostate conditions, including prostate cancer screening and the management of prostate-related symptoms.
At Nuffield Health York Hospital, Mr Wilson performs a variety of procedures, including:
- Prostate resection (TURP)
- Vasectomy (male sterilisation)
- Cystoscopy
- Circumcision
- Orchidectomy (for medical reasons)
- Biopsy of penile lesions
Personal interests
Mr Wilson lives in Strensall with his wife and their two sons. Outside of work, he enjoys football and travelling.

Research
Mr Wilson's research thesis was undertaken in Leeds between 1998 and 1999 and awarded an MD degree by the University of Sheffield in 2001. It looked at the role of interleukin-18 in the immunological response to bladder cancer with the aim of subsequently developing targeted immunological therapies against bladder cancer.
