About

Mr Ian Sharpe graduated from St Mary's Hospital, London in 1991 and completed his general surgical and orthopaedic training in the South West of England. He undertook Fellowships in Sydney and Seattle, gained his FRCS (Tr&Orth) accreditation in 2001, and has been a consultant in Exeter since 2003.

His NHS practice is based at the Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre at the Royal Devon and Exeter hospital, where he established the Foot and Ankle Unit, which has grown to be one of the largest teams in the UK. He was Clinical Lead for Trauma from 2006–10 and Clinical Director of the orthopaedic Centre from 2014–18.

He consults privately at the Exeter Foot and Ankle Clinic based at the Nuffield Hospital, working closely with a hand-picked expert team of clinicians to provide comprehensive care.

He has particular interest in ankle replacements and the management of ankle arthritis for which he is recognised internationally. Ian also maintains an active involvement in research and education, publishing and presenting both nationally and internationally.
