Mr Ian Grant is a Plastic Surgeon with a specialist interest in hand surgery. He was appointed as a substantive Consultant at Addenbrooke’s hospital Cambridge in 2005.
His interests include adult and children’s hand surgery, peripheral nerve surgery, skin cancer, and cosmetic surgery. His work includes reconstruction after trauma or after surgery for cancer. He is a core member of the Addenbrooke’s hospital skin cancer mutli-disciplinary team.
Mr Ian Grant was the Clinical Director for Plastic Surgery at Addenbrooke’s hospital between 2010 and 2014. He is currently a Cambridge University senior clinical tutor. Mr Ian Grant was elected to the Council of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand in 2012. He is a supervisor for the Interface fellowship in Hand surgery, and a Tutor for the Hand Surgery Diploma. He is on the editorial board of the Journal of Hand Surgery (European Volume). He has perviously been a “programme director” for the Cambridge first year (FY1) doctors.
Mr Ian Grant started the first regular children’s hand surgery clinic at Addenbrooke’s hospital in 2007, and now sees more than 180 referrals each year.
Mr Ian Grant trained in Medicine at Oxford University. He carried out plastic surgery training in Salisbury, East Grinstead, Mount-Vernon, and Cambridge Hospitals before undertaking fellowship training including hand surgery, aesthetic surgery, and microsurgery, at Hospitals in Melbourne Australia and at St James’s Hospital Leeds.

Research
Mr Ian Grant was awarded a Doctorate in Medicine from Oxford University for a thesis produced after two years of full-time research into wound healing and scarring, carried out at the Blonde McIndoe Institute in East Grinstead.
Mr Ian Grant is a regular reviewer for the Journal of Hand Surgery.
Mr Ian Grant has published more than 30 original articles in the field of patient safety, burns surgery, hand surgery, cosmetic surgery, and congenital anomalies. He is the author of book chapters on tissue engineering, wound healing, and children’s hand surgery. He has given invited lectures on peripheral nerve injuries, tendon repair, and children’s hand surgery.
